UPDATE: ESEA Season 5 LAN Playoffs Announced

Type: ESEA News
Posted Jan 22 2010 @ 6:28 pm
Craig "Torbull" Levine
Update: Upon learning that our event was scheduled for the same weekend as ETS, a popular BYOC event in Canada, we explored all options but unfortunately there is no way for us to avoid this conflict. The weekend before is the ESL EM Championship, the venue is not available for us the weekend after, and after talking with ETS we are unable to move our event into theirs. All ETS tournaments are BYOC tournaments and we need official, standardized PCs to run our LAN playoffs.

We are obviously disappointed by this conflict and will remain in better contact with ETS for future events.

Registration for the BYOC portion of our event will open next week and competitors and attendees can now reserve a discounted room at the Radisson on 11350 LBJ Freeway @ Jupiter, Dallas, TX for $73 per night, which includes free breakfast and a daily shuttle to and from the venue (Hella Shrine on 2121 Rowlett Road, Garland TX). Call 212-341-5400 and book your room under "ESEA" to receive the package.

We hope to see many of you there and stay tuned for event registration information next week!

In July we hosted our first LAN playoffs for ESEA League. The event was held at Lethal Gamers and featured the top six CS 1.6 teams from our invite division. I am happy to announce that six months and two seasons later our Season 5 LAN Playoffs will be held in conjunction with Intel LAN Fest in Dallas, TX on March 12 – 14.

The event will be held in conjunction with Intel’s LAN Fest series and feature a modest BYOC in addition to a tournament area showcasing the top CS 1.6, CS: Source, and TF2 teams from our invite divisions. Fans and ESEA community members can enjoy a weekend of nonstop gaming and watch the country’s top gamers battle it out for their piece of the $45,000 prize purse.

This event is the first official ESEA community gathering and another step forward as we look to host larger BYOC events with more lead time for subsequent seasons across the country. With about 20 events scheduled for 2010, Intel LAN Fest hosts BYOC events from Boston to Portland with all proceeds being donated to charity. To date Intel LAN Fest has raised over $314,000!

More information on the event, including BYOC registration information, will be released in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to ESEA.net for more information on the Season 5 LAN Playoffs and schedules, scores, demos, and stats from all of the regular season action.

I don't even know what ETS is :-x
0 1.11.10 at 4:13am #0 fo_X
hopefully one day itll get big enough to where main teams could play on lan as well for playoffs (if the community would actually go along with it)
0 1.11.10 at 4:14am #0 Vogt
isn't there a fair amount of teams going to ets too?
0 1.11.10 at 4:14am #0 steel_
Yeah I don't get it.. There will be substantially less viewers because a lot of people will be attending ETS, not to mention the fact that ETS will be deprived of up to four top notch teams.
-1 1.11.10 at 4:14am #0 kindofabigdeal
not like Torbull scheduled it
0 1.11.10 at 4:14am #0 cJ_B
Whats the prize pot for the intel lan? Is it 45k w/ ESEAi lan? Do people attending the ESEAi lan have to bring their own comps? TORBULL host another meeting wtf mad questions
0 1.11.10 at 4:15am #0 Kevin
so is playoffs byoc also? or just the other tournament that will be there at the same time
0 1.11.10 at 4:17am #0 smsh
very nice... wish I was close to Dallas
0 1.11.10 at 4:17am #0 taylortee
Yeah reschedule so it's not during ETS pl0x.
-2 1.11.10 at 4:18am #0 BGS

are you kidding me? i don't give two shits about ETS or any Canadian team right now... so i don't believe so.

pretty sure they are supplying computers for the ESEA-i teams and having a BYOC as well
0 1.11.10 at 4:18am #0 vec
Nice step forward!
0 1.11.10 at 4:20am #0 focus^
Why not try and move the competition to the very next weekend if possible?
0 1.11.10 at 4:28am #0 AZK
ets will be an awsome lan with like 4k or 5k prize for 1st place, anything we could do to change the date?

Last modified on 1/11/2010 at 4:30 am
0 1.11.10 at 4:30am #0 Kevin
have ETS move their lan dates!
0 1.11.10 at 4:32am #0 Shooter
Where did they announce their dates ? On their website, I only see "We're currently updating the website."...
0 1.11.10 at 4:37am #0 LauRaWr
$45,000 prize purse.

What kind of purse is it?
0 1.11.10 at 4:39am #0 PEX
I honestly hope Nearcry is wrong and that this lan is not in the same weekend as ETS...............
0 1.11.10 at 4:41am #0 Vogt
LAN-ETS = Montreal, CA March 12-14th. Friday-Sunday
0 1.11.10 at 4:42am #0 PEX
where did you get that info...
0 1.11.10 at 4:43am #0 krippler
33rd!
0 1.11.10 at 4:44am #0 steel_

I'm pretty sure they are both on the same weekend

The shame of it all is that last year's turn-out for source was ~40 teams (x5 players each = 200 cssers..)

Nice to know that a 1.6 Intermediate kid doesn't care about a huge LAN just because it's in Canada
0 1.11.10 at 4:48am #0 Vogt
0 1.11.10 at 5:00am #0 Torbull
All of the LAN playoff matches will be on tournament PCs, not players' own.

As for the scheduling conflict, just tune in and watch from ETS. I don't think it will conflict with any of the competitors.
-2 1.11.10 at 5:04am #0 cyago0b3R
why was my post nuked? lol???
0 1.11.10 at 5:33am #0 Moscow

I terrible Ca lan
0 1.11.10 at 5:40am #0 maxkap

ETS is one of the bigger (or biggest) CSS lans, i don't think its right to create this scheduling conflict, certain teams will not be able to attend it because of the esea lan playoffs, making the lan not as good as it usually is.

Wow. FAIL. First they say LAN was gonna be at Orlando, Florida, and now is at texas? Bullshet.
0 1.11.10 at 6:00am #0 bmode
Thats on meh bday (i'll be 45)
0 1.11.10 at 6:00am #0 Torbull
Nobody said it was going to be in Orlando. Orlando was one of the places we were considering.

This only impacts the four CSS teams from our invite division that qualify for the playoffs.
0 1.11.10 at 6:05am #0 BGS

good to know that you think you are good.

name 1 1.6 team that is legitimate in CS?
0 1.11.10 at 6:08am #0 nYn
kinda sucks thats your'e scheduling it at the same time as ets.. im sure some teams that make it to esea playoffs would like to go to this
-1 1.11.10 at 6:10am #0 BGS
i don't get how you guys can think that ETS would be more important than ESEA.

ETS is not known outside of Canada... even HLTV.org posts things about the ESEA playoffs and they are EURO based mainly... ETS?

yea maybe if this was like 5 years ago and called the TFL I would watch it... those were fun.
0 1.11.10 at 6:13am #0 maxkap

why don't you stop talking if you have no idea what you're talking about, you're just making yourself look like a fool.

esea has said countless times that it wants to help the source scene, and by doing this it isn't helping in the slightest bit, ets has a pretty large prize pot, and had 40 teams last year, why schedule lan playoffs at the same time as the biggest lan in the source scene?
0 1.11.10 at 6:15am #0 BGS

DID YOU NOT FUCKING READ THE POST?

I am not here to act like I know what is in the best interest of ESEA but I am assuming that they are looking out for just that.. you know, what's the best for THEM.

Source isn't their main game and obviously if ESEA got an opportunity to be apart of another expo as well that will only help them.

You want them to host another event at LG in texas where only people in the community will know abou tit?
0 1.11.10 at 6:15am #0 proasfck

ETS is the biggest Canadian CS Event of the Year

Americans these days.
0 1.11.10 at 7:21am #0 AZK
ets and esea lan are like the 2 biggest LANs in NA for source currently, they should not take place at the same time.

The prize pot for ETS is really good better than esea's for css I believe. There will most likely not be a better LAN than these two this year it's really a shame if the dates do not get changed by any of the organisations.

Do you think ESEA should remove de_tuscan, and replace it with de_cpl_mill in the CSS S7 Map Rotation ?
No, keep de_tuscan in.
Yes, remove de_tuscan and add de_cpl_mill.
I don't mind.
