CS:S IM Power Rankings - Week Six

Just two short weeks remain in regular season play. There weren't too many surprises in Week 6 on de_season. The current top spots in the Central and East Conferences are held by GoingPostal and Vision Valor Victory respectively. Both teams are on pace to finish out the season at 15-1. Check out the Week 6 power rankings to see where the rest of the Intermediate field stands in the playoff race.

1 (1) At the beginning of the season, it was Immortal7 that I had repeatedly placed at the top of the rankings. GoingPostal has taken over that duty has the top team for the third straight week and furthermore, the team has extended their win streak to six straight games. Despite facing two very challenging opponents in HSW and Cheaters Anonymous during the previous week, GoingPostal had little trouble coming out on top. 4sh0t and zarT have been excellent additions to the team thus far. GoingPostal has a clear lead in the Central Conference going into Week 7. A win against second place team, Focus Gaming, would likely indicate that GoingPostal should finish as the number one team in the Central Conference if they keep up this pace.

2 (2) Like GoingPostal, Vision Valor Victory has yet again retained their previous position in the rankings and furthermore, the team tops the East Conference with an 11-1 record. As per usual, vVv held their opponents to well under double-digit rounds in Week 6. vVv easily bested fourth place ampersandwich by a 16-7 score. Rightfully so, if there was a 1a and 1b ranking instead of 1 and 2, Vision Valor Victory would be right up there with GoingPostal. This team has played like a top Intermediate team throughout the season, with only one minor slip-up. I have the utmost confidence than Vision Valor Victory should easily secure the first place position in the East Conference by the close of Week 8.

3 (3) nVidious E-Sports enters Week 7 with a new name (Apahty Gaming) to go along with their 10-2, second place record in the East Conference. Apathy Gaming has rightfully retained third place in the rankings with another remarkable week. Wins over anneX and SIMPLIFY, two fellow power ranked teams, has boasted the team's win streak to six. I took the opportunity this week to specate both of their matches because I've heard good things about this team offensively. I was definitely not left disappointed. Apathy's line-up has competed together since well into the previous season and furthermore, they've continued to progress both individually and as a unit. With many of the other top team's out of the way, Apathy should easily stretch out the win streak until the end of the regular season.

4 (5) As predicted, it was not a popular decision to rank Immortal7-ca so highly in the previous week considering the amount of overturned matches they received. Nonetheless, Immortal7-ca, sans cheating players, was victorious in Week 6. Immortal7-ca had a very close scoring match against Fragstarz, a team that has dropped out of the rankings in recent weeks. Nonetheless, the team's win against Uproar was impressive enough to grant Immortal7-ca yet another move-up in the rankings. The core of this line-up is still very capable of making a solid run in the playoffs. The only problem here is that Immortal7-ca is going to have some trouble even making it there. The team will need to win nearly every single match from here on out to assure a top twelve record.

5 (7) Neck and neck with Apathy in the East Conference standings is Blight CSS CA at 10-2 and well on their way to the playoffs. Unlike the team's ranked above them, Blight CSS CA has had a few relatively close scoring wins but that is just being generous to their opponents. For the most part, Blight CSS CA has shown dominance week in and week out, winning 16-10 over both SIMPLIFY and Signature Style in Week 6. While some teams in the Intermediate division seem to be more heavily offensive-focused (Apathy, Vision Valor Victory), Blight CSS CA has always resembled a very defensive-focused team. Week in and week out, Blight's opponent have struggled to even enter bombsites, let alone plant the bomb, with much thanks to team's top scorers, Peanut_ and Coloo. Blight CA should cruise through Week 7 with ease.

6 (12) After a long absence, Focus Gaming debuted on the power rankings following a solid Week 5 performance. I was a bit skeptical because up until this previous week, the team faced mostly non-power ranked teams. Week 6 was Focus Gaming's first real challenge and the team fortunately prevailed. I am now thrilled to re-invite Focus Gaming to the power rankings following significant wins over both HSW and The Planteers. Moveover, a team that was overlooked for much of the season is now in sole ownership of the #2 spot in the Central Conference and well on their way to the playoffs.

7 (6) I've struggled with where to place the following two teams in the power rankings so excuse me while I combine both Legacy and Bersek into one discussion consdering the teams played eachother in Week 6. Legacy was defeated by Berserk in a double overtime match so therefore it would make more sense Legacy to be ranked behind Berserk. However, I was more impressed by Legacy's win over Freaking Awesome Gamers in their second de_season match compared to Berserk's loss which I'll discuss in the below snippet. In reality, Legacy's match against Berserk could have gone either way as both teams were quite evenly matched. Similarly, the teams are also tied in the Central Conference standings with 9-3 records. I'd love to see this match-up again come playoffs.

8 (10) As a previously mentioned, Berserk was very comparable to Legacy during Week 6. While Berserk was victorious in a double overtime match against Legacy, the team endured a bit of a surprise upset at the hands of Cheaters Anonymous. At 9-3, Berserk is still in great shape to make the playoffs but at this point in the season, every loss can be deterimental to playoff seeding down the road. That loss could have been the difference between being in the top half of the playoff brackets (facing lower seeded teams) verse being in the bottom half. However, since there are still two weeks left in regular season play, I may be overanalyzing the playoff picture at this point. They key takeaway here is that Berserk is an excellent team but will have a challenging schedule in the coming week.

9 (4) HSW had a challenging schedule in Week 6 with matches against GoingPostal and Focus Gaming, two of just four teams ranked above them in the Central Conference. HSW struggled in both matches. The team was able to keep the scores relatively close but had little chance of coming out victorious. Nonetheless, a ninth place ranking despite a winless week speaks volumes to the team's success thus far. They'll have a chance to redeem themselves in Week 7 with matches against two similar skilled opponents in Legacy and The High Crew.

10 (8) Ampersandwich had the opportunity to make a name for themselves this season when matched up against Vision Valor Victory. Unfortunately, the team wasn't able to turn any heads and lost 16-7. With a win over Amalgamation in the following match however (apparently with one player AFK for half of the match nonetheless), the team earned a very respectable 8-4 record and a return to the power rankings. If the regular season were to end today, ampersandwich would be on the brink of the playoffs considering their are eight teams with better records and three other teams with 8-4 records. The team can really only afford one more loss at best which may likely occur in Week 7 against Apathy Gaming.

11 (9) Nearly the same description can be used for anneX this week as I did with ampersandwich. anneX faced a top ranked competitor in Apathy Gaming and as expected, came out with a loss. On the contrary, anneX then faced a non-power ranked team which resulted in a very convincing win. Simiarly to ampersandwich, anneX is also on the threshold of the playoffs. Even the smallest mistake from here on out could cost this team a playoff spot. While I've been comparing the two teams up until this point, anneX could very sell seperate themselves from their competitor in Week 7 based on their reschedules. I have full confidence anneX will exit Week 7 with a 10-4 record. Anything less than that would be a huge disappointment.

12 (11) There are a number of teams that can be grouped together this week. Add Uproar to the mix, along with anneX and ampersandwich. At 8-4, Uproar is another team battling to stay in the playoff race. The team stood little chance against the likes of Immortal7-ca in Week 6 but with a win against Demize Esports, Uproar was able to retain a playoff-worthy record. Though after analyzing Uproar, anneX and ampersandwich, unfortunately it seems Uproar has the most to lose in Week 7. With matches against both Berserk and GoingPostal, the team absolutely needs to pull out at least one upset win to stay in the hunt. Otherwise their season could be put to rest by the end of this coming week.

13 (13) SIMPLIFY has slowly creeped up the standings to the point where they had a record worthy enough to be matched up against top opponents in Apathy Gaming and Blight CSS CA. In all honesty, the team put in a respectable effort. When watching these matches, I went into them with the mindset that SIMPLIFY would be blown out in each instance but the team managed to hold their own. I won't make the same mistake this coming week when SIMPLIFY takes on Vision Valor Victory. Though in retrospect, it should still end up in a loss for SIMPLIFY which will be highly deterimental to their playoff hopes.

The High Crew
Central

Streak N/A
15 (None) The High Crew definitely didn't meet preseason expectations with a 2-4 record to start the first portion of the season. Moreover, I'm still not convinced they have rightfully earned a spot back in the rankings consdering three of the team's eight wins have been from forfeits. Still, at 8-4 I believe it is important to grant The High Crew a power ranking position because they are now in contention for the playoffs. My personal preconception is that this team lacks the teamwork, chemistry and motivation in comparison to the other 8-4 teams. Moreover, based on the previous weeks, I don't think it is possible for the High Crew to come out with anymore than one win this week and that is a stretch. I hate to be pessimistic because I had such high hopes for this team early on, but The High Crew hasn't given much indication that they are ready for the playoffs. Still, as I mentioned at 8-4 this team is still one to keep your eye on.

Not gunna lie Simplify is a decent team that's been getting better over the seasons. They took 13 on us in cevo and 12 in esea (inferno, season). Both matches their downfall was having a bad CT side. They have a really good offensive side...

I think they got a bad rep because they had a cheater 1 or 2 seasons ago (euro)...

They were also very flexible with the scheduling so thanks for that.

Next week's rankings will be very interesting :).

#15 Ouch, that is random. I mean its one thing to be assholes during regular season, and its another when you are in playoffs and teams wont be lenient to give you a chance. Its retarded how some teams act. Legacy being one of them. Have played them 4 times in leagues, 1 being in playoffs and they refuse to play anytime you propose and insist on playing their own stupid days/hours.

You'll be in playoffs if you win out. See you there dude! GL in CEVO playoffs as well.

to be honest I think theres a fine line between teams like blight, vvv, apathy and the other top teams in IM right now. The competition is very good, but I dont think one team excels over the other greatly. We have beat some of the top teams, had a really bad loss to apathy due to a lagout and a close match to blight. Also we have upcoming matches to Rsyn and ampersand which are 2 great teams.

I dont wona offend anyone, but i dont think any team with the exception of blindside deserves to be going invite and thats even pushing it. I dont think any team right now can compete with the teams in ESEA invite. x3o/zomblerz/blight/crev are the top 4 teams in NA right now and I personally know alot of player on those teams and the time and effort they put into the game really shows and I know for a fact no team in IM could hang with those 4 teams. I am not saying the top teams in IM are bad, theyre actually very good, but the difference between the top teams and the semi pro teams is exponential.

im looking forward to the next season, ESEAim is full of great teams and I love the competition

It will make a team like vicious make it as well. They have a super easy schedule so will end up 10-6. IMO all the teams who did pretty good should make it so i think its good they expanded...so now a few of those 10-6 teams still have a chance.

weve had a crushing schedule, played all the french teams, close loss to blight, beat vvv

rsyn and ampersandwich for the last 2 matches, if we dont make playoffs this season its cool, you dont learn alot losing, especially to solid teams. esea im is full of great teams, especially east.

next season will be great ;o
